This machine receives grit pumped in suspension from the main process stream so that it can be returned with the grit removed.

It works by allowing the grit to settle then using a scraper arm deposits it into a discharge chute whilst the main stream flows over the side weirs and is returned to the process stream. The liquid from the grit is drained and collected in a dewatered state.

Its infrequent operation minimises wear and makes it energy efficient.  Where this machine outperforms is its simplicity to replace the components that are in contact with grit.
